The nonexistent marketing hype around The Barbie Movie

Okay, so I’m seeing a lot of marketing/ad folks clamouring to get their thoughts out on the Barbie movie’s marketing “tactics”.

My hot take: Barbie didn’t do anything groundbreaking when it came to marketing… they did the standard brand, media, and internet collabs every other movie does.

The difference is its release coincided with a movie that was its polar opposite. So the internet (manufactured or otherwise) took it and ran with it creating unprecedented hype.
